The story unfolds
After rejecting his queer son in an effort to uphold his deeply held traditional beliefs, Victor, a devout conservative father, begins to question the values that once defined his identity. When he attempts to reconnect with the son many years later, his search for redemption begins to unravel a marriage already strained by years of silence and unresolved conflict.
Director Nathan L. Marquez states, "Castaway is rooted in my own journey of growing up in a Latinx, conservative community while navigating my queerness and fighting to live authentically. It draws from the profound inner conflict I have faced when I was navigating my self discovery during my adolescent days. I realized after growing up, there wasn't much representation of someone like me who was navigating their queerness in a conservative Mexican household."
